Marc Guehi Given Hope of Future Liverpool Move After Deadline Day Collapse
Marc Guehi has been reassured that his chance to join Liverpool isn’t gone for good, despite his proposed switch from Crystal Palace breaking down at the last moment on deadline day.
Liverpool had lined up Guehi as their final signing of a hectic transfer window and even struck an agreement with Palace. However, manager Oliver Glasner blocked the deal once it became clear the Eagles couldn’t line up a replacement in time. With his contract set to expire next summer, the club had been under pressure to sell—especially after already allowing Eberechi Eze to depart for Arsenal earlier in the window.
The 25-year-old defender, who continued training and playing during talks, was said to be frustrated by Palace’s stance.
Former Liverpool star Dietmar Hamann, though, believes Guehi hasn’t missed his only shot. Speaking to CoinPoker, Hamann said:
“It’s obviously disappointing for Guehi because it looked like the deal would go through. He just needs to stay focused at Palace and maybe look at a move in January or next summer. Opportunities like Liverpool don’t come around often, but he’s still young—he’ll get another chance.”
Liverpool may need to act quickly, as Guehi will be free to negotiate pre-contract terms with overseas clubs from January 1. Bayern Munich and Real Madrid are both thought to be monitoring him, adding further competition for the Premier League champions—who also face uncertainty with Ibrahima Konate, whose deal expires next summer.
Despite his transfer frustrations, Guehi has been praised for his professionalism. But Hamann also warned that the situation highlights a risky precedent, given Liverpool’s contrasting success in signing Alexander Isak after he forced his way out of Newcastle with a two-month strike.
