Arsenal star Riccardo Calafiori has reacted on social media after suffering a bizarre injury in Italy’s big win over France.
Calafiori played a key role in Italy’s impressive 3-1 win over France on Friday, showcasing his defensive skills, a stark contrast to his clubmate William Saliba.
However, his match was interrupted by an unusual incident involving Ousmane Dembele. After Alessandro Bastoni tackled Dembele, the winger ended up hitting Calafiori’s calf with his boot as he fell, causing Calafiori to suffer a painful injury.
Despite his efforts to continue, Calafiori had to be substituted five minutes later, a setback for Mikel Arteta ahead of the upcoming North London derby against Tottenham.
Post-match, Calafiori shared his enthusiasm on social media with photos from the game, exclaiming, “What a performance, what a night!”
Italy’s coach, Luciano Spalletti, expressed hope that Calafiori will recover in time for their next match, stating, “We need to evaluate Riccardo, but with our staff, there’s a good chance he’ll be ready for the next game.”
Calafiori, who transferred to Arsenal for £42 million this summer from Bologna, has yet to start for his new team but has made two substitute appearances. Arteta praised him, saying, “Riccardo is a strong personality with specific skills that will enhance our team as we aim for major trophies. His recent performances for Bologna and Italy have been impressive.”
