Fabrizio Romano says Liverpool “still have the opportunity” to strike a deal with their 26-year-old standout.

Liverpool emerged from the summer transfer window with a strong squad but were unable to complete all of their intended business. A late push for Marc Guehi collapsed at the final stage, while uncertainty continues to surround the future of Ibrahima Konaté.

The French centre-back has entered the final year of his contract, which allows him to open talks with foreign clubs in January. Real Madrid are said to be monitoring the situation closely.

Recent reports claim Konaté rejected Liverpool’s latest renewal offer, though there remains optimism within the club that an agreement can still be reached. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has indicated that Liverpool will have several chances before January to secure a deal and ward off Madrid’s interest.

Negotiations, which were close to completion last year, have stalled over fresh details, leaving the door open for suitors. Madrid, meanwhile, continue to track developments with intent.

Liverpool are eager to avoid a repeat of the Trent Alexander-Arnold saga, which saw their academy star move to the Bernabéu earlier this year. For now, however, the situation remains unresolved—leaving club officials frustrated and supporters concerned.
