Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick delivered encouraging news ahead of Sunday’s LaLiga fixture against Getafe at the Estadi Johan Cruyff, confirming that young defender Pau Cubarsí will be available for selection.
Speaking after Saturday’s training session, Flick said:
“Cubarsí will be available tomorrow, and we will see if he will be on the bench or start. We trained today to recover faster for tomorrow’s match. It’s important tomorrow to have some refreshed players, that’s what matters.”
The 18-year-old, who had been dealing with minor knee discomfort, provides a welcome boost to Barça’s defensive depth.
Flick also provided updates on other injured players:
- Lamine Yamal & Alejandro Balde: “We are working on it. With Lamine, we have to take it day by day. As for Balde, we are aware of his situation, and I believe his return is getting close. Lamine is working hard and receiving treatment, his improvement is ongoing.”
- Gavi: “I hope we see him soon, but we need to make a decision about him perhaps tomorrow or Monday. Now is not the right time to decide. During the next week, we will know more about his progress.”
According to reports, Flick is also expected to start Marc Casado against Getafe while resting Frenkie de Jong, as he looks to carefully manage his squad’s fitness during a congested period.
