BREAKING NEWS: Joelinton Reveals Reason Behind Heated Exchange With Arteta After Arsenal’s Late Winner
Newcastle star Joelinton has admitted he was left “upset” by something Mikel Arteta said in the aftermath of Arsenal’s dramatic 2-1 victory at St James’ Park — and has already reported the incident to the FA.
The Brazilian midfielder was visibly furious after the full-time whistle, confronting Arsenal assistant Miguel Molina before Arteta stepped in to intervene. Television cameras caught Joelinton pushing Molina, while Newcastle coach Simon Weatherstone had to lead the midfielder away.
Arsenal had just secured a dramatic win through Gabriel Magalhaes’ 96th-minute header, completing a stunning late comeback. Nick Woltemade had earlier given Newcastle the lead before substitute Mikel Merino equalised for the visitors, setting the stage for Gabriel’s stoppage-time strike.
Joelinton, however, insisted his anger was not about the result but what was said after the final whistle:
“I don’t want to sound rude, but what Arteta said to me after Gabriel scored really got me upset. I’ve already reported it to the FA,” he revealed.
Despite the flare-up, Arteta downplayed the incident and focused on Arsenal’s resilience, praising his side’s mentality in one of the league’s toughest away fixtures.
“The belief and conviction of this team is incredible. To come here and win in this way makes me very proud,” said the Spaniard, who guided Arsenal to within two points of leaders Liverpool.
Newcastle boss Eddie Howe, meanwhile, admitted his side lacked quality in key moments despite their effort and organisation.
The fallout from Joelinton’s claim now casts a shadow over what was an enthralling contest — with the FA expected to review the report in the coming days.
