The Arsenal captain suffered another blow that could keep him out for weeks, leaving Arteta deeply concerned about his fitness and the team’s rhythm.

Arsenal extended their unbeaten run in the Premier League with an assured 2–0 victory over West Ham United, though the triumph was overshadowed by another injury setback for captain Martin Ødegaard.

The Norwegian playmaker lasted just over 30 minutes before limping off following a knee-to-knee collision. His early substitution continued a worrying pattern — Ødegaard has now become the first player in the Premier League this season to be forced off before halftime due to injury in three consecutive matches.

He was later spotted leaving the stadium wearing a knee brace, deepening concerns among supporters and coaching staff alike.

After the match, manager Mikel Arteta confirmed the initial signs were not encouraging. “I just spoke to him, and he’s not feeling positive about it,” Arteta admitted. “We’ll have to wait for the medical reports. We’ve been quite unlucky with injuries recently. He’s our captain, and he gives us a unique spark in attack. Hopefully, it’s nothing too serious.”

The night was meant to be a celebratory one for Arteta, marking his 300th game in charge of Arsenal. His side rose to the occasion, delivering a commanding display that left West Ham with little chance from start to finish.

Declan Rice broke the deadlock against his former club with a precise first-half finish, while Bukayo Saka doubled the lead from the penalty spot later on. Arsenal dominated possession, dictated the tempo, and comfortably saw out the match without allowing West Ham a single clear-cut opportunity.

After Ødegaard’s exit, Martin Zubimendi came off the bench to steady the midfield and ensure Arsenal retained control. Arteta lauded his team’s composure and depth despite ongoing injury setbacks and a demanding early schedule. “It’s been a tough start to the season — difficult fixtures and several injuries — but the team keeps showing great mentality, confidence, and control,” he said. “It’s fantastic to go into the international break on such a positive note.”

One of the day’s standout moments belonged to Bukayo Saka, who reached two personal milestones: his 200th Premier League appearance and 100 goal contributions — a remarkable feat for a 24-year-old. Arteta was full of praise, saying, “Those numbers are incredible. At his age, the level of consistency and performance he delivers is exceptional. Players like him are essential to achieving our ambitions.”

There was, however, additional concern as Declan Rice was forced off in the second half with a back issue. Even so, Arsenal’s victory keeps them firmly in the title hunt as they approach a slightly less intense run of fixtures after the international break.

For Arteta and his squad, the mission is now clear: preserve their rhythm — and their fitness — as they continue their pursuit of Premier League glory.
