Liverpool have been dealt another blow at academy level after scans confirmed the full extent of a serious injury to 19-year-old striker Lewis Danns. The youngster is now expected to be sidelined for a considerable period as he begins his recovery.
“It could be a couple of months,” revealed Liverpool U21 coach Rob Page in an interview with the ECHO. “It’s not going to be a quick fix.”
Page acknowledged the setback as a tough moment for the highly rated forward but praised Danns’ resilience and positive outlook.
“It’s a setback for him, but Dannsy is one of the most optimistic lads you’ll meet — especially when it comes to football,” said Page. “If anyone can handle this challenge, it’s him. He has the full support of the medical staff, myself, and everyone at the club. He’ll get through it.”
The injury is another cruel twist for Danns, who had been tipped for a loan move to Sunderland during the second half of last season before that deal fell through due to a back problem.
Despite the frustration, Liverpool’s academy coaches remain confident that the teenager’s professionalism and attitude will see him bounce back stronger once fit again.
