Liverpool star ‘to leave’ club next summer as journalist drops transfer bombshell

A key Liverpool star is reportedly set to leave next year according to a report by a top journalist.

Despite a quiet start to the transfer window, Liverpool was active towards the end, signing Georgian goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili and Federico Chiesa before the deadline. Key players such as Fabio Carvalho, Thiago Alcantara, and Joel Matip also left the club over the summer.

Recent reports suggest that Liverpool anticipates another key player, goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher, will depart next year. The Athletic journalist James Pearce mentioned on the Walk On podcast that while Kelleher is a Premier League-quality goalkeeper, Liverpool’s decision not to sell him for £7 million plus a backup goalkeeper seemed logical. With Mamardashvili expected to join Liverpool next summer, it seems likely that Kelleher will leave at the end of this season.

Although Nottingham Forest showed interest and made an offer involving £7 million plus American keeper Matt Turner, Liverpool opted against the deal. Kelleher himself has expressed a desire to be a first-choice goalkeeper, suggesting that he might be open to a move as the club appears to be planning for the future with Mamardashvili.

Liverpool has turned down several offers. “It’s not always fully up to me to make the final decision,” Kelleher said. “My ambition is clear: I’m confident in my abilities and want to play regularly every week.”
