There is reportedly a huge stumbling block that could prevent Marcus Rashford from making a permanent move to Barcelona.
Barcelona Consider Making Marcus Rashford’s Move Permanent Amid Impressive Start to Life in Spain 🇪🇸✨
Marcus Rashford’s decision to leave Manchester United last summer is proving to be a career-defining one. The 28-year-old winger joined Barcelona on loan after slipping down Rúben Amorim’s pecking order at Old Trafford — and he’s wasted no time making his mark in La Liga.
Since arriving in Spain, Rashford has looked rejuvenated, registering six goals and seven assists in 14 appearances across all competitions. His latest strike came on Sunday, as he sealed Barça’s 3-1 win over Elche, with Lamine Yamal and Ferran Torres also on target for the hosts. Rafa Mir netted the visitors’ consolation.
Rashford’s form has reportedly convinced Hansi Flick and the Barcelona hierarchy to pursue a permanent deal. The German coach is said to be impressed by the Englishman’s versatility, pace, and composure in front of goal, viewing him as the ideal long-term option for the club’s left flank.
However, negotiations won’t be straightforward. According to Caught Offside, Rashford’s current salary — agreed during his 2023 contract renewal with Manchester United — far exceeds Barcelona’s Financial Fair Play (FFP) limits.
To make the move feasible, Barça are exploring a restructured contract that would include a lower base wage, supplemented by performance-related bonuses and image rights incentives. If Rashford agrees to those terms, reports suggest a permanent transfer could be finalised as early as the winter window.
Despite Barcelona’s leading position, several European heavyweights — including Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich, Juventus, Inter Milan, Chelsea, and Arsenal — are said to be monitoring the situation closely.
Rashford and Barcelona will return to Champions League action this Wednesday, when they travel to Belgium to face Club Brugge at the Jan Breydel Stadium — another chance for the in-form Englishman to continue proving his worth. ⚽🔥
