Hansi Flick Makes Decision On Leaving Barcelona Amid Club Brugge Draw

Hansi Flick has made a decision on his future as Barcelona manager amid their disappointing 3-3 draw against Club Brugge.

Barcelona entered their Champions League match in Belgium sitting in the play-off positions, having picked up two wins and one defeat from their first three group games.

Against Brugge, they fell behind three separate times. Former Manchester City academy winger Carlos Forbs struck twice for the home side, netting once in each half.

Barça, however, found a response every time — with Ferran Torres, Lamine Yamal, and an own goal from ex-Norwich City wide man Christos Tzolis keeping them level.

Late drama almost cost them the match when goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny miscontrolled the ball inside his own box in stoppage time. Romeo Vermant placed the ball into an empty net, but the goal was ruled out for a foul on the Polish keeper.

Although Hansi Flick guided Barcelona to the La Liga title in his first season, scrutiny around his position has been rising — intensified by last month’s 2–1 El Clásico defeat to Real Madrid.

The shaky defensive display in Brugge, particularly the three goals conceded, is likely to add further pressure. Barça have now gone nine matches without a clean sheet and were beaten 4–1 away at Sevilla in October.

Despite this, Spanish journalist Alfredo Martínez reports that Flick remains firm about his future and has no intention of stepping down. When questioned about the rumours before the Brugge match, he reportedly dismissed them as “more garbage.”

Flick arrived at Camp Nou in the summer of 2024, succeeding club icon Xavi. Before joining Barcelona, he endured a difficult two-year spell managing Germany, which ended after their shock group-stage elimination at the 2022 World Cup. Earlier in his career, he guided Bayern Munich to the 2020 Champions League title, having initially taken over on an interim basis after Niko Kovač’s dismissal.
