Arne Slot on Liverpool’s 3-0 loss at Manchester City 🗣️ “Manchester City played too many short balls and passes. You know, we spent weeks learning how to cope with long balls and now we had to deal with the short balls.” “We couldn’t score because Man City had more of the ball.”

Arne Slot Reacts to Liverpool’s 3–0 Defeat at the Etihad: A Story 😂⚽

The cameras were barely switched off when Arne Slot walked into the press room, looking like a man who had just spent 90 minutes solving the wrong puzzle.

Manchester City had just beaten Liverpool 3–0, and Slot’s expression made it clear he had questions — mostly for himself.

He sat down, adjusted the microphone, and sighed.

“We prepared for something completely different…”

Slot began with a wry shake of his head.

“Manchester City played too many short balls and quick passes,” he said. “We spent weeks working on defending long balls — long, high, diagonal ones. Then City showed up and did the opposite. Short passes everywhere. It’s like studying for the wrong exam.”

The room chuckled, but Slot wasn’t joking.

He leaned back in his chair, still bewildered.

“They passed so much in tight spaces that my defenders were spinning like weather vanes,” he added. “I’m not even sure the ball went above waist height all game.”

Dominated by Possession

When asked why Liverpool struggled to score, Slot gave an answer so painfully honest it almost sounded philosophical.

“We couldn’t score because… well… City had more of the ball,” he said. “Hard to attack when you barely touch it.”

He shrugged, as if still trying to understand how City seemed to be everywhere at once.

“You look up, and suddenly Bernardo Silva has the ball. Then De Bruyne. Then Foden. Then Silva again. It’s like they cloned themselves.”

A Lesson Learned

Slot finished with a thin smile.

“Next time, we’ll prepare for long balls, short balls, medium balls… every ball imaginable,” he said. “Because City apparently use all of them.”

He stood, nodded to the reporters, and walked out — already thinking about the next training session, and definitely… definitely about those short passes.
