Exclusive: Liverpool set to take a tough stance after issuing a major transfer ultimatum

Liverpool Issue Final Warning to Ibrahima Konaté Over Contract Standoff

Liverpool have reportedly given Ibrahima Konaté a clear ultimatum: sign the club’s latest — and final — contract offer, or be placed on the transfer list ahead of the January window.

According to information shared with CaughtOffside, the Reds are unwilling to let talks continue without progress and are prepared to sell the French defender if he refuses the new terms. Liverpool are said to have submitted an improved proposal in one last attempt to keep him, with his current deal set to expire at the end of the season.

Sources claim the offer would position Konaté among the highest-paid players in the squad. If he turns it down, Liverpool will not revisit negotiations.

Is Konaté Set for an Anfield Exit?

Konaté and his representatives have yet to give Liverpool an answer, leaving the club unsure about his intentions. At 26, the centre-back may be considering a new challenge, or he could simply be aiming to secure the strongest possible contract before committing.

Liverpool have dealt with both scenarios recently — Trent Alexander-Arnold opted to leave when his deal expired, while Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk signed fresh contracts after lengthy negotiations. Fans will be hoping Konaté chooses the same path as the latter two, given his importance to the team.

Marc Guehi Identified as Potential Successor

Marc Guehi, who was close to joining Liverpool in the summer, remains a key target should Konaté leave. The England international is reportedly open to a move and is seen as an ideal long-term replacement.

However, Guehi’s situation mirrors Konaté’s — his contract is also running down, which could attract interest from other top clubs. Liverpool’s ability to secure his signature may depend on how quickly Konaté makes his final decision.
