NEW: Ibrahima Konate wants around £350k a week to extend his contract with Liverpool.

Ibrahima Konate contract: Liverpool ‘optimistic’ after issuing a fresh offer

Reports from France suggest that Ibrahima Konate is expected to sign a new Liverpool contract after receiving a renewed proposal, despite Real Madrid maintaining interest in securing him on a free transfer.

Konate endured a difficult night in Liverpool’s recent 3-0 defeat to Man City, yet the French defender is still seen as an important figure for the club’s future.

With his current deal running down, Liverpool have made extending his contract a major priority, especially after renewing Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah’s deals and investing nearly £450 million in new arrivals.
Rumours had grown that Konate could leave, with Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, and Paris Saint-Germain all monitoring the situation.

However, L’Equipe report that Liverpool submitted a new offer to his representatives in recent days, and the Premier League champions are now confident the centre-back will agree to stay.

The club’s hierarchy is said to be doing “everything necessary” to secure a long-term commitment from their No. 5, mirroring their approach with Van Dijk and Salah.

Konate’s salary revealed

Claims that Konate is currently earning around £70,000 per week have been dismissed.
David Ornstein of The Athletic recently revealed to NBC Sports that his wage is “more than double that,” suggesting closer to £150,000 weekly.

Negotiations could prove more complex as Konate would likely request wages near the top of the club’s pay structure, but given his importance, such demands would be understandable.

Despite some concerns about the 26-year-old’s form this season, he remains a central member of the squad and could continue to be so as the club navigates an upcoming transitional period.

Konate viewed as a future leader

With Van Dijk turning 35 next summer and entering the final year of his contract, Liverpool are preparing for long-term succession—both in the left-sided centre-back role and within the team’s leadership group.

Konate may not yet be seen as an official dressing-room leader, but he plays a significant role off the field.
Hugo Ekitike recently praised him for helping him settle at the club, and young defender Jarell Quansah is among those who have benefited from Konate’s guidance.
