Zidane Sets One Condition Before Considering Liverpool Job

Zinedine Zidane has made his stance on a potential move to Liverpool clear, as rumors linking him to the Anfield hot seat continue to grow.

Back in September, following a 2–1 Carabao Cup win over Southampton, everything appeared to be moving in the right direction for Arne Slot. Liverpool had opened the 2025/26 campaign with seven straight victories across all competitions. But recent struggles have shifted the narrative — and changed the betting landscape.

According to Betfair, Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner is currently the favorite to take over at 3/1, followed by Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola at 4/1. Zidane sits third at 9/2, ahead of Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann at 7/1, while a sensational return for Jürgen Klopp is listed at 9/1.

Zidane has long admired Liverpool. The French legend once described Anfield as one of the best stadiums to play in, telling Real Madrid’s YouTube channel: “Liverpool. I also remember…” — recalling its atmosphere with great respect.

Ahead of a 2021 Champions League meeting, he went even further, calling Liverpool a “complete team” and warning:
“People talk about their front three, but their real strength is how they work together. We have to stay alert.”

Despite this admiration, Zidane has been upfront about the main obstacle that could prevent him from accepting a Premier League role: the language barrier.

In a 2022 interview with L’Équipe, he explained:
“I understand English, but I don’t fully control it. Some coaches go to clubs without speaking the language, but I do things differently.”

This remains Zidane’s one non-negotiable condition — he will not take the Liverpool job unless he feels fully confident in his English, a standard he insists on before leading any team in England.
