Liverpool Injury Update: Latest on Alisson Becker, Jeremie Frimpong, and Giovanni Leoni’s Recoveries
Liverpool are close to receiving a major boost as several key players near a return ahead of the Premier League restart.
The Reds went into the final international break of the year following a disappointing 3-0 defeat to Manchester City, a result that left them eight points behind league leaders Arsenal. Despite a difficult afternoon — which included a ruled-out goal from Virgil van Dijk — there was at least one positive: the comeback of Alexander Isak.
Isak, who had been out for four games with a groin problem, didn’t feature at the Etihad but has since rejoined Sweden and played the final 30 minutes of their 4-1 loss to Switzerland on Saturday.
With players steadily returning, Arne Slot’s squad is edging closer to full strength ahead of Nottingham Forest’s visit to Anfield this weekend.
Here is the latest on Liverpool’s injury list:
Alisson Becker
Liverpool’s first-choice goalkeeper has been absent since September 30, when he was forced off during the 1-0 Champions League defeat to Galatasaray.
Alisson has now missed eight consecutive matches in all competitions and has not joined Brazil for their last two international camps. Encouragingly for Liverpool, he is expected to be available for the Forest match, likely replacing Giorgi Mamardashvili between the posts.
Projected return: November 22, 2025 – vs Nottingham Forest (H)
Jeremie Frimpong
Frimpong has been out since sustaining an injury just 19 minutes into Liverpool’s 5-1 Europa League win over Eintracht Frankfurt on October 22.
Early evaluations indicated a potential six-week absence, putting him on track for a comeback in early December. Before the Manchester City fixture, Slot commented that he anticipated Frimpong being ready after the international break but not in time to face Forest.
Projected return: December 2025
Giovanni Leoni
Young defender Giovanni Leoni is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering a significant knee injury.
The 18-year-old picked up the injury during his debut in the Carabao Cup against Southampton, landing awkwardly following a late challenge in the 2-1 win. He required immediate medical attention before being stretchered off, with scans later confirming a torn ACL.
Slot confirmed that Leoni will be out for around a year, acknowledging the difficulty of the situation for a player so early in his career.
Projected return: Late 2026
