Former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp is officially returning to the football world — but not in the way most people anticipated.
Klopp, who stepped down after the 2023/24 season following a legendary tenure at Anfield, had repeatedly stated he had no plans to jump back into management. Despite being linked with top jobs, including Barcelona, he insisted he needed a break from the intensity of frontline coaching.
After leaving Liverpool, Klopp re-entered football in a different capacity, taking on a behind-the-scenes role as Head of Global Soccer for the Red Bull football group. Now, however, he has announced his next chapter — and it will put him back by the pitch.
The 58-year-old posted a humorous video on Instagram, teasing supporters with suggestions that he might be returning to the touchline. Shortly after, he revealed the true story: he has signed on with Magenta TV as a pundit for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
In the video, Klopp joked about the idea of managing again before explaining that what he really misses is the matchday feeling — the energy of the stadium, the grass under his feet, the proximity to the action — but not the stress and pressure of being in charge.
He wrapped up his announcement with a message to German presenter Johannes B. Kerner, confirming that he will make his on-air debut on June 11 in Mexico, where the World Cup begins.
With his wealth of experience from Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool, Klopp is expected to provide sharp insight, humour, and strong opinions throughout the tournament — especially regarding Germany’s performance and England’s chances of going all the way.
