Record-breaking’ – Finance expert reveals if Liverpool can afford to sign Antoine Semenyo in January

Liverpool’s interest in Antoine Semenyo ahead of the January transfer window is driven largely by their current standing in the Premier League table.

That’s according to finance specialist Dr. Dan Plumley, who explained exclusively to Football Insider whether the club has the financial capacity to sign Semenyo this winter.

Liverpool invested heavily during the summer, yet big-name additions such as Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz have struggled to make an impact so far. As a result, Arne Slot’s team sits eight points behind league leaders Arsenal.

Semenyo, whose contract includes a £65 million release clause, is also being monitored by Arsenal and Tottenham as competition for the 25-year-old intensifies.

Liverpool in strong financial position for Semenyo deal

Speaking to Football Insider, Plumley outlined why Liverpool could still afford Semenyo despite their substantial summer outlay.

“We need to examine the finer details of those summer transfers—particularly how the payments are structured,” he explained. “Amortisation is a crucial factor because it affects UEFA’s squad cost regulations.

“Not all transfer fees are paid upfront, and Liverpool’s revenue figures are at record levels, rising to around £600 million.”
