Not just money — Man United pull out their special play to bring Semenyo to Old Trafford

Manchester United Target Antoine Semenyo in £65m Deal — Club Ready to Hand Him His Preferred Shirt Number

Manchester United are preparing a major move for Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo ahead of the January 2026 transfer window.

The Ghanaian attacker has become one of the Premier League’s hottest prospects, attracting attention from several top clubs across Europe. To strengthen their chances of landing him, United are even willing to offer him his favourite squad number — 24.

That number currently belongs to Andre Onana, but with the goalkeeper out on loan at Trabzonspor for the remainder of the season, United would be free to hand it to Semenyo immediately if he signs.

Semenyo has been in impressive form this campaign, contributing 6 goals and 3 assists in the Premier League, further intensifying rumours of a possible January switch to Old Trafford.

When the 25-year-old renewed his contract with Bournemouth last summer — extending it until 2030 — a £65 million release clause was included. Any club that triggers that clause can secure his services without negotiation.

While the fee is manageable for Europe’s wealthiest sides, there is still uncertainty about whether United will spend big again after splashing around £200 million earlier in the summer on players like Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, and Benjamin Sesko.

Semenyo is highly admired for his versatility, able to play centrally, out wide, or even as a number 10.

A January transfer would also benefit United timing-wise, as Ghana’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations means Semenyo would remain available throughout the winter.
