Barcelona plans to bring back their former star to solve the team’s major crisis in the upcoming transfer window!

Italian journalist Matteo Moretto revealed on Radio Marca the identity of the left-back Barcelona are keeping a close eye on as they plan their summer reinforcements. According to Moretto, Alejandro Grimaldo of Bayer Leverkusen has emerged as one of the club’s priority targets for the upcoming transfer window.

Grimaldo has been outstanding for Leverkusen this season, attracting interest from several top European clubs. Bayern Munich are also monitoring him, but Barcelona appear to be the side most strongly connected to the player. Moretto explained that Grimaldo would favour a return to Spain if he leaves the Bundesliga, which puts Barça in a favourable position.

Barcelona are actively looking to strengthen the left-back spot following the recent dip in form from players currently in that role. Grimaldo, who came through La Masia before leaving for Benfica and later joining Leverkusen, is viewed as a perfect fit to reinforce the position. While no official offer has been made yet, his positive relationship with the club makes a future return to Camp Nou increasingly possible.

Competition From Bayern Munich

Barcelona, however, will not have a clear path. Bayern Munich are also pushing hard to sign Grimaldo and have expressed firm interest. Even so, the player is believed to lean toward returning to Spain rather than moving to another German club if he chooses to leave Leverkusen.

Bayer Leverkusen’s Position

Leverkusen, for their part, have no intention of losing one of their standout performers. Grimaldo is seen as a crucial part of the team’s structure. Still, the situation could change if the player requests a move — especially if Barcelona present a compelling offer, given his emotional ties to the Catalan side.

What Comes Next

Barcelona’s sporting department continues to track Grimaldo’s situation closely and list him among the main candidates to upgrade the left-back position next summer. If Grimaldo signals his desire to move on, Barcelona are expected to be in a strong negotiating position.

Competition for his signature is likely to grow as the transfer window approaches, with major clubs watching closely to see how discussions between Grimaldo and Leverkusen unfold.
