Luis Enriqueâs Stance on Liverpool After Being Tipped as Their âTop Targetâ
Liverpool are reportedly eyeing PSG manager Luis Enrique as a long-term option, though he is not expected to replace Arne Slot immediately. The club views Enrique as a major future candidate, but only if he eventually leaves PSG.
According to The Sun, Enrique is being linked with the Liverpool job in the event that Slot is dismissed. Pressure on Slot is increasing after Liverpoolâs poor run of form, with nine losses in their last 12 matches, including a 4â1 defeat to PSV in the Champions League. They have slipped out of the Premier Leagueâs top half and fallen behind Everton.
The next week is seen as crucial for Slot, with away games against West Ham and Leeds, followed by a home match against Sunderland. Jamie Carragher has claimed Slot may need at least seven points from these matches to keep his job.
If Slot is sacked, Liverpool would reportedly approach Jurgen Klopp about returning on an interim basis until the season ends. Their long-term plan, however, is said to revolve around Enrique, who led PSG to their first-ever Champions League title last season.
Enrique, PSG manager since 2023, has previously expressed his ambition to work in the Premier League. As early as 2013, he mentioned his interest in English football and praised Liverpoolâs style under Brendan Rodgers.
More recently, ahead of PSGâs Champions League meeting with Liverpool in 2025, Enrique described the Reds as one of Europeâs best teams. He also praised Slot, saying he had successfully built a well-balanced, complete side after the Klopp era.
