Clubs Mohamed Salah Could Consider in January After Liverpool Hint at Possible Exit
Mohamed Salah’s future at Liverpool is under scrutiny after being left out of Arne Slot’s starting XI in the last two Premier League matches, a period during which the champions have struggled to find form.
Jamie Redknapp has suggested that Salah’s time at Anfield may come to an unexpectedly early end — potentially as soon as January. The former Liverpool midfielder believes the Egyptian superstar will not tolerate being sidelined, especially if an appealing offer from elsewhere emerges.
Despite signing a fresh contract last season, Salah now has just 18 months left on his deal. With his recent spells on the bench, speculation over a sudden exit has intensified.
“He’s a Premier League legend, a Liverpool icon — and that’s exactly why I don’t see this ending well,” Redknapp said on Sky Sports.
He added, “This is going to be a difficult situation. When you have a player of Salah’s stature — someone so important to the team — their influence in the dressing room and how they conduct themselves in training becomes hugely important.
“I’d be shocked if he stays for the remaining 18 months. I don’t think the current situation benefits anyone.”
Redknapp went on to say that football can be unpredictable, and a transfer in January or in the summer should not be ruled out.
“If the right club comes in… ultimately it will be up to him. He’s earned that right. If he decides, ‘If I’m not going to be a starter, I won’t hang around,’ then he could move. I still believe he wants to continue playing in Europe.
“People will naturally assume a move to Saudi Arabia — he’s massively admired there — or possibly a switch to the MLS in the US. But this feels like a major turning point in his relationship with the club.
“He will feel let down, and perhaps he thinks he’s being blamed for the team’s struggles. But even worse for him, Liverpool are statistically performing well without him right now.”
Possible Destinations for Salah
Before considering the money involved in a transfer, it’s worth remembering that Salah will be away at AFCON in December and January. So while Redknapp believes a move is possible, a January transfer remains unlikely. The summer window appears more feasible.
Still, Mirror Football have highlighted several realistic options:
Saudi Arabia
According to ESPN, Al Hilal still have Salah “firmly on their radar.” Al Qadsiah have also shown interest. Although Salah and Liverpool rejected previous bids from Saudi clubs, the region remains financially capable of completing a massive deal.
Salah would be a superstar in the Saudi Pro League and would likely receive a lucrative contract. The league is still seen as a destination for aging stars, but Cristiano Ronaldo won’t remain its central figure forever — and Saudi clubs may see Salah as the next major face of their project.
