Liverpool has learned that acquiring Georgian winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia this summer would necessitate exceeding their current transfer record. Manager Arne Slot has emphasized the need for a new winger, particularly after negotiations for Newcastle’s Anthony Gordon fell through. Although the team boasts skilled players such as Luis Diaz, Cody Gakpo, Diogo Jota, and Mohamed Salah, Slot still wants to add another attacking option.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia of Napoli has become a prominent figure in transfer rumors, with his father confidently asserting that Khvicha surpasses the legendary Mo Salah.
In a Calcio Napoli 24 interview, Kvaratskhelia’s father remarked, “It’s a flattering comparison because Salah is an exceptional player who has achieved great things with Liverpool and Egypt, but we have a higher regard for Khvicha. Many believe he is the best. As his father, I naturally feel this way, but hearing it from others makes me very proud.”
These comparisons are well-founded considering Kvaratskhelia’s impressive Champions League performance last season, which contributed to Napoli’s victory. Former Liverpool defender Markus Babbel, discussing bet365’s Euro 2024 coverage, lauded Kvaratskhelia: “Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is a highly skilled player, and it would be fantastic if he joined Liverpool, particularly given their playing style.
He’s a smart player who thrives with the ball and excels in transition, which aligns with Liverpool’s approach. At just 23, he would be a great addition to the Premier League. However, Napoli’s president is unlikely to make it easy; if he were to leave, the cost could reach £150 million, which might be too steep even for clubs like PSG and Liverpool.”
According to The Echo, Liverpool and two other undisclosed Premier League clubs are interested in Kvaratskhelia, even though PSG’s £110 million bid was turned down. Given that Liverpool wasn’t ready to meet Newcastle’s rumored £100 million asking price for Gordon, Kvaratskhelia could command an even higher fee. While a move for the 23-year-old has been considered, it is unclear if Liverpool is prepared to spend such a large amount to secure him.
