Real Madrid, Barcelona ‘suffer major blow’ in Joshua Kimmich pursuit

Real Madrid and Barcelona have faced a major setback in their pursuit of Joshua Kimmich, as the Bayern Munich midfielder is now anticipated to sign a new contract with the club. There had been much speculation about Kimmich’s future, with his current deal expiring in the summer of 2025, and both Spanish clubs believed he would leave on a free transfer.

However, recent reports from Fichajes indicate that Kimmich’s situation has changed significantly following Vincent Kompany’s appointment as Bayern’s head coach. Kompany reportedly sees Kimmich as a vital part of his strategy, leading the midfielder to prepare for a long-term contract with the Bundesliga champions.

Kimmich’s essential role under Kompany is evident, as he has played in every match this season and provided two assists, missing no minutes of action. Bayern CEO Herbert Hainer has expressed a desire for Kimmich to conclude his career at the club, emphasizing the board’s commitment to retaining him in Munich.

Hainer also commended Kimmich’s leadership, congratulating him on his recent appointment as captain of the German national team, further highlighting the midfielder’s significance to both his club and the national team.

While Kimmich appears to be leaning toward a new contract with Bayern, interest from Premier League clubs like Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal, and Liverpool remains strong. Initially, it seemed Kimmich was looking for a new challenge, but Bayern is reportedly ready to offer him a pay increase to keep him at the Allianz Arena.

With Bayern currently at the top of the Bundesliga table, tied on points with RB Leipzig, Kompany’s team will be aiming to reclaim the title this season, with Kimmich playing a crucial role in their ambitions.
