Spanish media outlets report that Barcelona has renewed their interest in Marco Verratti. The club has consistently admired the Italian midfielder, although previous efforts to acquire him were unsuccessful. Despite Barcelona’s interest, Verratti stayed loyal to PSG and eventually achieved legendary status there.
Last summer, a notable shift occurred when the 31-year-old left for Qatar in a contentious move, signing with Al-Arabi. The transfer drew attention due to PSGβs close connections with the Qatari state, with claims suggesting the deal was designed to benefit PSGβs financial status.
Al-Arabi paid β¬45 million for Verratti, exceeding his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of just under β¬30 million. Now, a year later, there are rumors about a possible return to Europe for the midfielder.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona is once again interested in Verratti, who has performed well with seven assists in 17 games for Al-Arabi. The Catalan club views him as a strong candidate to strengthen their midfield.
However, the report highlights several challenges to a potential deal. Barcelonaβs financial limitations pose a problem given Verrattiβs high wages, and he is also contracted until next year, which would require a transfer fee.
Additionally, there are concerns about Verrattiβs performance after a season in Qatarβs less competitive league. Despite these issues, Barcelonaβs history shows that surprising transfers are not uncommon.
In contrast, Barcelona seems more likely to finalize a deal for Guido Rodriguez from Real Betis on a free transfer, as reported by journalist Rudy Galetti. This option appears more viable considering the clubβs financial constraints.
