Following Olmo’s standout performances at Euro 2024, where Spain clinched the title, Barcelona showed interest in acquiring the midfielder. While their initial focus was on signing Nico Williams from Athletic Club, reports of Williams staying with the Basque team for another year led Barcelona to redirect their attention to Olmo.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports that Barcelona and Olmo have reached an agreement on personal terms for a six-year contract running until the summer of 2030. Olmo is reportedly keen on joining Barcelona exclusively. However, the Catalan club has yet to finalize the transfer fee with Leipzig. They have made a new offer, hoping it will be accepted. Romano notes that Barcelona’s latest bid to the Bundesliga club is €55 million (£46.3m/$59.3m), with an additional €7 million (£5.9m/$7.5m) in add-ons.
With the move seeming imminent, Olmo has not been included in Leipzig’s pre-season plans. It remains to be seen if the Bundesliga club will accept Barcelona’s latest offer.
