Bombshell report claims 23y/o could resort to extremes to try and force a move to Liverpool

A player rumored to be moving to Liverpool this summer might reportedly go to great lengths to make it happen. Football Insider reports that Anthony Gordon is so intrigued by Liverpool’s interest that he might threaten to go on strike to force the transfer. This comes after a proposed move to Anfield fell through in June when Newcastle addressed concerns about Financial Fair Play.

The 23-year-old is reportedly eager to return to Merseyside, but Newcastle is ready to offer him a new contract to retain him at St James’ Park. The report suggests that there are concerns in Newcastle that he might attempt to force an exit from Eddie Howe’s team by not putting in full effort after his post-Euro 2024 holiday.

To be honest, these claims should be taken with skepticism, especially since The Mirror has reported that Howe does not anticipate Gordon will “agitate for a move” to Liverpool. Howe has reportedly informed the 23-year-old that he is a crucial part of his plans.

This doesn’t suggest that the player would abruptly disappear to pressure Newcastle, despite his desire to return to Merseyside. According to Richards Hughes, if the winger were to effectively go on strike, it could be a major red flag for Liverpool, potentially deterring them from spending heavily on him. Such behavior could be seen as a sign that he might act similarly in the future, and Liverpool fans would likely disapprove of anyone engaging in such tactics at Anfield.

Although we recognize that Gordon may want to move to Liverpool, a club he supported as a child, we don’t see him as the type of person who would resort to extreme measures like downing tools to force a move away from Newcastle.
