Manchester United are reportedly looking to sign a talented Arsenal academy forward this summer.
Erik ten Hag has been active in the summer transfer window, swiftly securing the signings of Leny Yoro and Joshua Zirkzee this month.
Manchester United completed the signing of Zirkzee on July 14 for a reported fee of £35 million. Just five days later, they secured 18-year-old French defender Yoro from Lille for around £52.18 million.
United are now eyeing a potential third summer signing in academy prospect Chido Obi-Martin. The 16-year-old, formerly with Arsenal’s academy, became available after his contract expired. Despite Arsenal’s efforts to retain him with a scholarship offer, Obi-Martin opted to explore other opportunities.
According to The Athletic, United have engaged in talks with Obi-Martin, who visited Carrington for discussions. The negotiations are in early stages, with interest also coming from other top clubs including local rivals Manchester City.
Obi-Martin joined Arsenal from Danish club KB in 2022 and has shown promise during his tenure in the London academy.
He made headlines last year when he scored an astonishing ten goals during the Under 16s’ 14-3 victory against Liverpool.
Following his success at the U16 level, he was promoted to the U18s, where he maintained his impressive form. He scored four goals each against Crystal Palace and Fulham and later netted five against West Ham United. In another standout performance, he scored seven goals in a match against Norwich City. Overall, he amassed 29 goals in just 17 appearances for Arsenal’s U18 team.
On the international stage, Obi-Martin represented Denmark in the 2024 UEFA European Under-17 Championship qualification campaign, scoring twice in three group-stage matches.
