London trio keen on snapping up Klopp favourite who’s been ‘left perturbed’ at Liverpool – report

A Liverpool player is said to be prepared to leave Anfield this month, and it appears he has several potential destinations. Recent reports indicated that a deal was reached with Newcastle in June to transfer Joe Gomez for £45m, with Anthony Gordon moving in the opposite direction for £75m. However, both transactions fell through, casting uncertainty on the defender’s future.

Graeme Bailey of HITC reports that the 27-year-old is ready to pursue a move away from Merseyside, as he was offered to Newcastle and Arne Slot could not promise him consistent playing time this season.

According to sources cited by the outlet, Brentford, West Ham, and Crystal Palace are all interested in bringing the Londoner back to his home city, while Newcastle continues to show interest as well. The journalist mentioned on X that Gomez is unsettled by Liverpool’s readiness to transfer him to Newcastle in exchange for Gordon.

If Gomez is indeed upset about being offered to Newcastle as part of a deal for Gordon, his frustration is understandable. After nine years with Liverpool, where he’s the only player remaining from the Brendan Rodgers era and has made 217 appearances under Jurgen Klopp—who once praised him as a ‘sensational footballer’—it seems disrespectful to suddenly consider replacing him for a new acquisition.

This isn’t to diminish the value of the Magpies winger but to highlight the significant contribution the defender made under Liverpool’s most successful manager in recent times. Last season, for example, he stepped up to cover various roles across the defense amid injury problems. According to James Pearce (via The Athletic), Liverpool won’t force Gomez out and the Newcastle move was circumstantial. However, it still suggests that the 27-year-old was seen as expendable by Liverpool’s management.

It’s understandable if the Londoner might want to return to his home city after the events earlier this summer. However, we strongly hope that he and the club can resolve any issues so he can continue to play a crucial role at Anfield.
