Liverpool could be dealt another blow in the summer transfer window as Barcelona have reportedly reopened talks for a major player.
Arne Slot has been notably silent during his first transfer window as Liverpool manager, with the club being the only Premier League team yet to make a new signing.
Liverpool seemed close to securing Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad, but the deal collapsed on Monday when Zubimendi chose to remain with his boyhood club.
Now, Liverpool might face the loss of a key player, as Barcelona has renewed its interest in the starter.
Luis Diaz has been linked with a transfer to Barcelona for a while, as the Spanish club seeks to strengthen their left-wing position.
Following a standout performance with Spain at the Euros, Nico Williams seemed to be the top choice for Hansi Flick.
With the deal for the talented 22-year-old proving challenging, Barcelona is reportedly refocusing on pursuing Luis Diaz. According to Spanish journalist Pipe Sierra (via Caughtoffside), Barcelona might offer a player swap as part of the deal for Diaz.
Last season, Diaz made 51 appearances for Liverpool, scoring 13 goals and providing 5 assists. At the 2024 Copa America, the 27-year-old impressed by helping Colombia reach the final, where they were narrowly defeated 1-0 by Argentina.
On the way to the final, the winger scored two goals and was a standout performer in the contentious semi-final match against Uruguay.
Diaz has also impressed in Liverpool’s preseason, scoring twice in a 4-1 victory over Sevilla. Despite this, CaughtOffside reports that Liverpool might be willing to allow Diaz to leave in order to renew their pursuit of Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon before the transfer window closes at the end of the month.
Liverpool is reportedly willing to accept £50 million for Diaz, but it is expected that they would need to invest more to acquire Gordon from Eddie Howe’s side, especially with Newcastle United facing a crucial season.
