Manchester United fans have accused Erik ten Hag of ‘making excuses already’ after hearing what he said during his pre-match press conference ahead of their Premier League opener
Manchester United kick off their 2024/25 season with a home match against Fulham on Friday.
New recruit Matthijs de Ligt, who recently joined from Bayern Munich, has trained for the first time and has quickly made a strong impression on United supporters.
Supporters have also reacted to Ten Hag’s comments before the match.
In his pre-match press conference, the Dutch manager stated that his team is “not ready” for the new season.
“The team is not ready, but the league starts. We can’t hide from it. We have to deal with it,” he told reporters.
Manchester United supporters expressed their views on the 54-year-old’s remarks, feeling he is already making excuses.
One user on X commented: “Doesn’t help himself. The negativity gives players an easy excuse. I’m all for him staying as manager long-term, but these comments are embarrassing.”
A second supporter remarked, “He really needs some media training.”
A third added, “Already making excuses.”
Another commented, “It’s strange to say that. This guy seems to spread his own negativity, I swear.”
A fifth supporter asked, “How do the players feel hearing excuses like this already? He doesn’t help himself sometimes—just so you know, I’m a Ten Hag fan and really want him to succeed.”
Ten Hag also addressed his team’s goals for the new season, saying: “We are aware of our targets and believe we are heading in the right direction. We’ve won two trophies and understand our game model. Now, we need to integrate the new players, see if they can enhance our game model and elevate the team’s performance, and move forward from there.”
The Red Devils manager also confirmed that De Ligt and another new signing, Noussair Mazraoui, will be included in the squad for their league match against Fulham.
