Manchester United have agreed a deal to sell midfielder Scott McTominay it has been reported.
The midfielder has been widely speculated to be leaving Old Trafford this summer. His contract, which ends in 2025, includes an option for an additional year.
At 27 years old, he participated in United’s first two Premier League matches of the season and played 12 minutes as a substitute in Saturday’s 2-1 loss to Brighton.
However, United have now decided to let him go.
According to The Athletic, terms have been agreed with Napoli for McTominay’s transfer at a fee around €30 million.
If McTominay finalizes terms with the Italian club, it will conclude his 22-year association with United. The Red Devils will include a sell-on clause in the deal.
This transfer will help United avoid penalties related to Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), as McTominay, being an academy product, will contribute ‘pure profit’ to the financial accounts.
United has turned down various offers for the midfielder this summer, including a £20 million bid from Fulham.
Last season, he was United’s joint-third top scorer with 10 goals across all competitions from midfield.
During United’s pre-season tour in the United States, manager Erik ten Hag had indicated he was satisfied with McTominay’s presence in the squad, praising his impact on the team both in performance and spirit.
