Liverpool fans are furious following the emergence of a new report surrounding their apparent pursuit of Juventus winger Federico Chiesa.
The Reds have yet to finalize a permanent transfer this summer but are nearing the acquisition of Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili. Fabrizio Romano reports that Liverpool will pay €35 million for the goalkeeper, who will remain on loan at Valencia for the remainder of the season.
BBC Sport now suggests Liverpool might make a surprise move for Federico Chiesa, who Juventus reportedly considers surplus to requirements. The 26-year-old has been recovering from a cruciate ligament injury sustained in January 2022, and has had several minor injuries since, missing 11 games last season. Despite this, he scored 10 goals in all competitions, his highest tally since the 2020/21 season.
Liverpool fans, however, are concerned about a new development. Gianluca DiMarzio reports that Chiesa is considering waiting to see if Barcelona can secure his transfer, given their financial difficulties and challenges with player registration. If Barcelona cannot proceed, Chiesa may explore other options, including Liverpool.
Fans, wary of a repeat of the Martin Zubimendi situation where the player opted to stay at Real Sociedad rather than move to Liverpool, have expressed frustration. One fan commented, “So he’s going to make us wait while Barcelona figures out their finances. Great.” Another said, “Why do all these players want to go to Barcelona? They always end up regretting it.” Others voiced similar concerns, with one adding, “Zubimendi 2.0—just embarrassing,” and another stating, “If we’re not his top choice, then no thanks.”
