Incredible’ Liverpool powerhouse set to have medical ahead of impending Anfield exit – reports

Liverpool is unlikely to make any signings on deadline day this summer, but it does seem probable that some players will depart. Ben Doak is reportedly deciding between loan moves to Hull or Middlesbrough, and another Liverpool player appears set to join the Championship temporarily.

According to James Pearce of The Athletic, Nat Phillips is expected to complete a loan transfer to Derby County, having been cleared to undergo a medical with them. He will spend the remainder of this season with Derby.

Lewis Steele of The Daily Mail mentioned that Liverpool initially aimed to sell the 27-year-old Phillips this summer but have opted for a loan deal instead.

Phillips remains a favorite among Liverpool supporters due to his crucial contributions during the injury-plagued 2020/21 season and his memorable Cruyff turn at San Siro in the Champions League that year.

Jurgen Klopp praised Phillips as ‘incredible’ after that campaign, but despite this, the defender has struggled to secure a permanent role at Anfield, having been loaned out three times in recent years.

With Phillips turning 28 next March, there are concerns he may never establish himself firmly in his career. As his contract expires in 2025, Liverpool faces a significant decision in the coming months: whether to extend his contract or let him go for good.
