Croatian midfielder Luka Modric is struggling to adapt to Real Madrid’s style of play this season. The Spanish newspaper “Relevo” reports that Real Madrid is facing early-season difficulties, having stumbled in two of their first three matches. This has led to the perception that changes, potentially including tough decisions and managing specific situations like Modric’s, may be necessary.

The report notes that Modric’s performance has been questioned early in the season after playing 126 minutes and being one of the few players to appear in all matches so far. Coach Carlo Ancelotti values Modric for his ability to provide control, stability, and fluidity to the team. However, it is unusual that Modric’s passing accuracy has dropped below 90% in all games this season, which is atypical for the Croatian star.

Modric’s passing accuracy this season has been 87.8% against Mallorca, 78.3% against Valladolid, and 87.2% against Las Palmas. The Spanish network explains that Modric struggles in the current disorganized Real Madrid setup, where he finds it challenging to connect with teammates and influence games, especially as a substitute. The team’s focus on running rather than passing does not align well with Modric’s style, making it difficult for him to adapt despite his high skill level.

The report also highlights the challenge for coach Ancelotti in managing a veteran like Modric, who is nearing the end of his career and still has title aspirations. While Ancelotti wants to honor Modric’s contributions, he also acknowledges the growing presence of talented young players who better fit the team’s evolving style. Although Modric benefits from the absence of Bellingham and Camavinga by getting more playtime, Ancelotti is keen on introducing Arda Guler, who is impressing the senior management with his improving performances.
