Hansi Flick reportedly ‘called out’ Lamine Yamal for breaking a Barcelona rule and handed him an unusual punishment.
Lamine Yamal made his professional debut for Barcelona last season, but he truly burst into the spotlight during Euro 2024 this summer. The teenager, who turned 17 just before Spain’s victory over England in the final, dazzled with one goal and four assists, establishing himself as one of the brightest young talents in football.
Despite his rising fame, new Barcelona manager Hansi Flick is determined to keep Yamal grounded. Flick, who succeeded Xavi Hernandez over the summer, is known for his approachable demeanor and popularity among players but isn’t hesitant to enforce discipline when necessary.
According to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Flick’s disciplinary approach was evident during pre-season when a senior player faced consequences for arriving late to a morning training session. Additionally, Flick had to remind Yamal of his responsibilities after the young player was late to a team meeting before training. Interestingly, Yamal was reportedly punished by having his teammates lightly hit him on the back of the head in a tunnel.
Since taking over as Barcelona’s head coach this summer, Hansi Flick has made a significant impact. His players appear notably sharper and fitter compared to last season. Barcelona currently lead La Liga by four points, having won all four of their opening matches. Flick’s team has secured victories against Athletic Club, Valencia, and Rayo Vallecano with 2-1 scores and defeated Real Valladolid 7-0. Barcelona will continue their league campaign after the international break with a Catalonian derby against Girona.
