Liverpool make surprise summer signing as player confirms move with ‘YNWA’ statement on Instagram

Liverpool have completed another summer signing after being given final approval by the Premier League.

Arne Slot’s team has made an impressive start to the season, winning all three of their opening matches without allowing any goals. They began with a 2-0 victory over newly-promoted Ipswich, followed by a similar scoreline against Brentford. They then secured a 3-0 win at Old Trafford against Manchester United, maintaining a perfect record as they entered the international break.

Federico Chiesa, who joined Liverpool from Juventus for £10m last month, was present for the Manchester United game. He is the club’s only senior signing this summer, though Liverpool also acquired 16-year-old Alvin Ayman from Wolves shortly after finalizing Chiesa’s transfer.

Liverpool has continued their activity in the transfer market by signing highly-regarded teenage forward Rio Ngumoha from Chelsea. Ngumoha, a 16-year-old England youth international, had decided to leave Chelsea for Liverpool in July, but he couldn’t play for the Reds until the Premier League approved the move due to his age. The Premier League has now given its approval following the completion of the necessary process on Wednesday.

According to The Athletic, Liverpool has passed the Premier League’s five-step review required for young players moving between category one academies. A compensation fee for Ngumoha is yet to be agreed upon between Liverpool and Chelsea, and a tribunal may be needed to determine the final amount.

In 2021, Liverpool were required to pay Fulham £4m for Harvey Elliott following a tribunal decision.

According to The Athletic, Ngumoha chose to join Liverpool from Chelsea after observing the opportunities afforded to players like Jarell Quansah, Conor Bradley, and Trey Nyoni.

Ngumoha has signed a scholar’s contract with Liverpool and may make his debut for the U18s against Blackburn Rovers on September 14.

On Wednesday night, Ngumoha announced his move on Instagram, sharing a photo of himself with Liverpool’s shirt at Anfield and captioning it: “Delighted to sign for @liverpoolfc YNWA.”
