Man Utd have made ‘significant’ change to Casemiro’s contract ahead of potential transfer

Manchester United have reportedly made a significant change to the contract of Casemiro ahead of his potential transfer away from the club this summer – but he isn’t the only player affected.

Casemiro was substituted at half-time during Manchester United’s 3-0 loss to Liverpool, following two mistakes that led to goals by Luis Diaz. The 32-year-old Brazilian is reportedly a target for Galatasaray, raising the possibility that he may have played his final game for United. The Turkish transfer window closes on September 13.

A major obstacle to Casemiro’s transfer is his high salary and the two years remaining on his four-year contract signed in 2022 when he joined from Real Madrid. Reports suggest that Galatasaray might only need to cover part of Casemiro’s wages for a loan deal, similar to the arrangement for Victor Osimhen’s move from Napoli.

The Athletic’s Laurie Whitwell notes that the deal could be more feasible now due to United’s failure to qualify for the Champions League this season, which led to a reduction in Casemiro’s wages. Whitwell also discussed Jadon Sancho’s loan to Chelsea, where the Blues are obligated to make the move permanent next summer, and whether Chelsea would cover a portion of Sancho’s wages during his loan.

He also noted the impact of wage cuts on the squad. He explained, “I don’t have all the details, but Chelsea isn’t covering the full wages; it’s a significant amount we’re told. With the lack of Champions League qualification, there’s a wage reduction. For instance, Casemiro’s salary has been cut by 25 percent, which is a considerable decrease.”
