Today, reports revealed that Barcelona’s financial struggles prevented them from acquiring an English Premier League player during the last summer transfer window. Despite efforts to overcome these financial challenges and sign key players, Barcelona was unable to finalize significant deals. Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo reported that sporting director Deco aimed to secure Onana’s transfer with Hansi Flick’s approval, but the deal fell through due to the club’s financial constraints.
The newspaper also noted that Hansi Flick saw the Onana transfer as crucial for Barcelona, believing that Onana’s physical and technical skills would bring significant balance to the team and help them compete for all available titles. As a result, Flick decided to test young players Marc Casado and Marc Bernal during Barcelona’s pre-season tour in the United States. This approach allowed the club to avoid spending on a key player, which ultimately proved successful for them.
