Uruguayan Luis Suárez, currently with Inter Miami, intervened to help prevent the departure of a Barcelona player during the summer transfer window. Suárez, who played for Barcelona from 2015 to 2020 before joining Atlético Madrid, has a storied history with the Catalan club.
According to “Mundo Deportivo,” Suárez alerted Barcelona officials to the possibility of his compatriot, Ronald Araújo, considering a move to Bayern Munich. Suárez conveyed to Barcelona president Joan Laporta that Araújo was seriously contemplating the offer from Bayern Munich, motivated not just by financial incentives but also by his desire to compete for European titles. Following Suárez’s intervention, Barcelona acted quickly, expressing their intent to renew Araújo’s contract, although they did not receive a response from the player’s representatives.
Laporta believed that Araújo’s agents had not fully communicated the club’s offer to him, so he personally intervened to explain the details of the new contract to the player. The newspaper noted that while Laporta’s relationship with Suárez was not particularly strong, he appreciated Suárez’s efforts to prioritize Barcelona’s interests and took action to address the situation.
