Anthony Martial’s latest proposed move has collapsed due to the forward’s contract demands, according to reports.
Anthony Martial, 28, remains a free agent after departing Manchester United at the end of the 2023/24 season. The French forward spent nine years at Old Trafford, netting 90 goals in 317 appearances. Despite other former United players securing new clubs, Martial has yet to find a team.
Previously linked with a surprising move to Greece, Martial was offered a record contract by AEK Athens. However, he declined the offer, showing hesitation about relocating to Greece despite interest from various clubs.
Recently, there have been reports suggesting Martial might leave European football altogether, with Flamengo reportedly interested following an injury to Pedro, who suffered an ACL tear while on international duty. Although the Brazilian transfer window closed on September 2, Martial could still join Flamengo due to his free agent status. The Mirror has even reported that Martial has “chosen” Flamengo as his next destination and is close to finalizing the move to South America.
The proposed move for Anthony Martial to Flamengo appears to have fallen through. Brazilian outlet Meia Hora (via Sport Witness) reports that Flamengo has withdrawn from negotiations due to Martial’s demands. The French forward reportedly sought a three-year contract with high wages, which Flamengo deemed unfeasible.
The club believes that both the salary request and contract length are untenable, leading to the conclusion that further negotiations are unlikely. As a result, Martial faces an uncertain future and may need to adjust his demands to secure a favorable move this summer.
