Man Utd dressing room ‘source’ reveals what the squad now thinks of Casemiro after start to the season

Manchester United midfielder Casemiro now looks likely to remain at the club, at least until January – after being linked with a move away from Old Trafford for much of the summer.

Casemiro, 32, has had a challenging start to the 2024/25 season, and his performance in United’s 3-0 loss to Liverpool earlier this month has raised questions about his ability to compete at the highest level.

Reports suggested that United had hoped to sell the £350,000-a-week midfielder during the summer transfer window.

However, with most major European transfer windows now closed, it seems likely that Casemiro will stay with the Red Devils.

His last feasible option for a move this summer is to Turkey, where the transfer window remains open until Friday.

Although Galatasaray had shown interest in the Brazilian, that interest seems to have waned.

As a result, Casemiro, who joined United for £70m from Real Madrid in 2022, is likely to remain with Erik ten Hag’s squad.

According to the Manchester Evening News, Casemiro’s teammates believe his decline is a result of the club’s own difficulties. A source in the dressing room mentioned that the squad recognizes Casemiro did not anticipate a second season focused on qualifying for the Champions League after the team finished eighth in the Premier League last year.

Casemiro’s contract with United runs until 2026, but he may face being replaced by Manuel Ugarte, who was signed from PSG for £50m this summer.

Ten Hag, however, has stood by Casemiro amidst the criticism, asserting that the five-time Champions League winner still has a significant role to play for the club.

“He’s a great character and has won everything imaginable in his career,” Ten Hag stated. “I’m confident he will continue to contribute to our team, and Casemiro, being a proven winner, will always be present.”
