Fans have taken to social media to criticise Anthony Taylor after he broke a Premier League record during the match between Chelsea and Bournemouth
Enzo Maresca secured his second Premier League victory as Chelsea manager with a 1-0 win against Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium. The match was decided by a late goal from substitute Christopher Nkunku, assisted by Jadon Sancho, who was making his debut for the club.
Despite the win, Chelsea fans are upset with referee Anthony Taylor, whose performance broke a long-standing Premier League record. Taylor issued 14 yellow cards during the game, surpassing the previous record for the most yellow cards in a single Premier League match. This record had been set in August 2010 during a game between Wolverhampton Wanderers and Newcastle United and was matched by Chelsea’s May 2016 game against Tottenham Hotspur.
In response to the record, one Chelsea fan commented on X: “Anthony Taylor can never be forgiven for his crimes against Chelsea football club.” Another fan remarked: “Historic number of yellows for a game that had very little aggression. Anthony Taylor seemed determined to set a record.” One person humorously noted: “I just heard Anthony Taylor booked the tea lady after the game for asking how many sugars he wanted. Taylor doesn’t eat sugar after 9pm.”
