Barcelona turned down massive offer this summer for Lamine Yamal, it would have been new world record

Lamine Yamal is seen as football’s next young superstar and it seems Barcelona know what talent they have after allegedly rejecting a world record bid for the player.

The 17-year-old made headlines by debuting for Barcelona’s first team at just 15 in 2023. Despite his youth, Yamal has already netted eight goals in 55 appearances across all competitions and has won the La Liga title with his lifelong club.

He has also achieved success with the Spanish national team, securing a European Championship victory this summer with a 2-1 win over England in the final. With three goals in 16 international caps, Yamal is expected to score many more if his career continues on its current upward path.

Yamal’s current contract with Barcelona extends until the summer of 2026, but it’s likely the club will aim to extend it, given that he is one of the most promising talents in world football and could become a central figure in their attack for the next decade.

Although many expect Yamal to remain at Barcelona for years to come, other clubs have made attempts to lure him away. Paris Saint-Germain reportedly tried to entice Barcelona into selling their prized young talent by offering a world record transfer fee, similar to their €222 million bid for Neymar in 2017.

After losing Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid on a free transfer this summer, PSG sought to acquire Yamal as his replacement. Football agent Andy Bara revealed that PSG offered around €250 million for Yamal, which would have set a new transfer record, but Barcelona rejected the proposal.

In a statement to Podcast Inkubator, Bara confirmed: “Barcelona did turn down a substantial offer from PSG for Lamine Yamal a few months ago. The deal was valued at approximately €250 million.”
