Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya produces stunning double save against Atalanta

Arsenal star David Raya produced an incredible double save against Atalanta.

On Thursday night, Arsenal faced Atalanta in Bergamo, taking on the Serie A team and Europa League champions in the Champions League.

The Gunners were the last English team to kick off their Champions League campaign, following victories by Aston Villa and Liverpool on Tuesday and Manchester City’s draw against Inter Milan on Wednesday.

After a cautious first half, Atalanta was awarded a penalty in the 48th minute when Thomas Partey fouled Brazilian midfielder Ederson. Mateo Retegui took the penalty, but Raya made a spectacular save. The rebound came back to Retegui, who seemed poised to score, but Raya pulled off another incredible save to keep it out. One of the best double saves you’ll ever see.

Speaking on TNT Sports, former Wales and Blackburn midfielder Robbie Savage expressed his amazement, saying, “I have to say, that’s one of the best saves I’ve ever seen, especially the second one. It’s unbelievable how quickly he got back up—wow!”

Former Everton player Leon Osman commented on BBC Radio 5 Live: “Wow. The first save was remarkable, low to his right. After that, the ball bounced to his left, and David Raya quickly scrambled across. Retegui thought he had an easy tap-in!”

Arsenal legend Martin Keown also praised Raya, noting, “David Raya showed great patience, waiting for Mateo Retegui, who took his time with the penalty. It felt like a game of who blinks first. He made a fantastic initial save and then quickly got back on his feet for the second. If Arsenal secures anything from this match, that will be seen as a major turning point.”
