Fans can’t believe what David Raya said about his incredible double save against Atalanta

David Raya’s comments after producing a stunning double save against Atalanta have got fans talking.

Mikel Arteta’s team traveled to Bergamo on Thursday to begin their 24/25 Champions League campaign against Europa League champions Atalanta at the Gewiss Stadium.

The match was largely uneventful, with Arsenal unable to penetrate Atalanta’s solid defense.

In the second half, Atalanta was awarded a penalty after Thomas Partey fouled Ederson in the box. Mateo Retegui took the penalty but had both his shot and the rebound expertly saved by David Raya.

After the match, Raya commented, “It was just a penalty, and I was fortunate to dive the right way. I was unlucky that the rebound went straight to him, but I was quick enough to get up and save it. Keeping a clean sheet and helping the team secure at least a point is fantastic.”

Fans reacted to his comments on social media, with one saying, “I wouldn’t call anticipation luck; he showed fantastic instinctive goalkeeping.” Another tweeted, “Very humble. God bless.” A third added, “What a man, brilliant saves, but still think it’s luck!” Someone else remarked, “Humility at its best.”

Raya added, “As we expected, it was a challenging match—not the most entertaining to watch. We started strong and had control, but we gave away too many balls and lost our rhythm. There are many positives, but also plenty of areas to improve.”

Arsenal will now return to England to prepare for their exciting Premier League match against reigning champions Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
