Footage of Darwin Nunez after scoring a wonderful goal during Liverpool vs Bournemouth has emerged.
On Saturday afternoon, Liverpool resumed their Premier League campaign by hosting Bournemouth at Anfield.
The visitors believed they had taken an early lead when Antoine Semenyo scored within five minutes, but VAR disallowed the goal for offside.
Following that, Liverpool stepped up their game, with Luis Diaz netting two goals in quick succession to put them ahead 2-0.
In the 37th minute, Nunez thrilled the Anfield crowd with a powerful shot using his weaker left foot, extending the lead to 3-0 for the Reds.
After scoring, footage surfaced on social media showing Nunez becoming emotional following his first goal of the season.
He has faced criticism from fans and pundits since his high-profile transfer from Benfica to Liverpool.
Ahead of the Bournemouth match, Liverpool manager Arne Slot addressed Nunez during a press conference.
He remarked, “It’s challenging because both players and the media often believe you only have confidence in a player if you start them. We believe in all of them; otherwise, you wouldn’t bring a player on when you’re leading 3-1 against Milan or sub him in for the last half-hour against Nottingham Forest.”
Slot emphasized, “There’s a lot of confidence in him, but there are two players competing for that position, and I could name more who could fill it. He’s in competition with Diogo, who has performed well. There are many games ahead, and we’ll have plenty of time to evaluate Darwin’s progress and how he can contribute uniquely to the club.
“We’ve shown him videos—not just him—our staff is heavily focused on video analysis, working with individuals to improve team dynamics. This includes positioning both with and without the ball.
“We demonstrate how he can maximize his strengths in relation to our other players, each of whom has their own unique traits. Playing with Mo, Lucho, Federico, or Cody requires different positioning.”
