Liverpool manager Arne Slot aimed a cheeky dig at one of his players after their 2-1 win over Wolves at Molineux.
Liverpool secured their victory with a second-half penalty from Mohamed Salah, just two minutes after Wolves equalized through Rayan Ait Nouri’s close-range goal. Ibrahima Konate initially put Liverpool ahead with a header just before halftime, although he made an error that led to Wolves’ goal.
Ryan Gravenberch earned the Player of the Match award following another strong performance. In a joint interview with Sky Sports, Konate humorously suggested he deserved the award instead. Presenter David Jones then posed the question to manager Arne Slot, who chuckled and responded, “Maybe he forgot the moment we conceded the goal—perhaps he wasn’t there! It was avoidable, to say the least.”
The result placed Liverpool at the top of the Premier League by the end of Saturday, following Manchester City’s dropped points earlier in the day. The Reds have won five of their first six matches, with their only loss being a 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest at Anfield earlier this month.
Reflecting on his team’s overall performance at Molineux, manager Arne Slot commented, “We didn’t start well, but credit to Gary O’Neil and Wolves for their solid game plan. We faced some challenges in the first 15 to 20 minutes, but after that, we gained control. It wasn’t surprising that we scored [with Konate before halftime], especially since we had a significant chance just before that with Dominik Szoboszlai.”
