Arsenal fans couldn’t believe their eyes after their team scored a breathtaking freekick against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.
Paris Saint-Germain faced Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium for their second match of the Champions League season.
Kai Havertz put Arsenal ahead by converting a cross from Leandro Trossard, marking his fifth goal of the season. Shortly after, captain Bukayo Saka scored a stunning free-kick, taking Arsenal into halftime with a 2-0 lead, leaving fans in disbelief.
From near the corner flag, Saka curled the ball directly into the net without any other player touching it. Reactions on social media included a fan praising Saka’s free-kick quality, while another noted a teammate’s instruction for a flat delivery. One fan humorously questioned the new tactic, while another expressed confidence that it signaled victory for Arsenal. Another supporter joyfully remarked that people would finally recognize the team’s talent.
This goal marked Saka’s first from a free-kick and his fifth in six Champions League matches at the Emirates. It was also Arsenal’s first direct free-kick goal in over three years, with the last coming on September 18, 2021, from Martin Odegaard against Burnley.
Bukayo Saka netted Arsenal’s second goal in their Champions League match against PSG. If Arsenal wins, it will mark their first victory in this season’s Champions League, following a 0-0 draw with Atalanta, the Europa League winners.
With challenging away matches against Inter Milan and Sporting on the horizon, securing three points against the French champions would significantly enhance Arsenal’s chances of advancing to the next stage.
In the Premier League, the Gunners will face newly-promoted Southampton on Saturday, which will be their last match before the international break.
