Laporta plans to sign the deal of the century next summer, with the help of Nike

Joan Laporta is determined to make a significant impact in the upcoming summer transfer market, aiming to satisfy fans after a lack of exciting signings over the past two years. Barcelona pursued Nico Williams and Joshua Kimmich, but both attempts were unsuccessful. Ultimately, they signed Dani Olmo, who has exceeded expectations but hasn’t fully met media and fan demands.

According to Spanish newspaper El Nacional, Nike is looking to align with a global star for Hansi Flick’s project in 2025. A key focus is finding a top-tier striker to fill the gap left by Robert Lewandowski, whose contract expires in June and is unlikely to be renewed, meaning he may leave the club for free.

Several alternatives are under consideration, with Erling Haaland emerging as the most exciting option. The newspaper notes that Haaland, regarded as the best player in the world, has impressive statistics, scoring 11 goals in just nine games this season.

This isn’t the first time Erling Haaland has been linked to Barcelona; previous attempts to sign him were unsuccessful. Despite the challenges, Laporta will have the backing of Nike, Barcelona’s main sponsor, which could facilitate the move.

Additionally, Pep Guardiola’s potential departure from Manchester City at the end of the season might motivate Haaland to seek a new challenge in La Liga, a league he has always found appealing. With Real Madrid ruled out as a destination and the pressure of sharing the spotlight with numerous stars, Flick’s project at Barcelona could be more enticing for Haaland if he chooses to leave the Etihad.

Furthermore, Barcelona has additional reasons for optimism regarding Haaland, particularly the potential sanctions Manchester City could face, which may necessitate the sale of the former Borussia Dortmund player.
