🔥🏟️“I have played with TWO greatest defenders RAMOS and PEPE but there’s ONE particular Arsenal’s player who’s better than both combined…I’m leaving in January because of only him, he’s too good and looking at how he play I know I don’t have future here anymore”: William Saliba reveals why he must leave Arsenal in January, names ONE new signing as the reason

The goalkeeper transferred to Southampton from Arsenal this summer after losing his starting spot to David Raya.

Ramsdale moved to Arsenal in 2021 from Sheffield United for ÂŁ26 million, making 89 appearances. However, with Raya joining the team first on loan in 2023 and then permanently, Ramsdale’s playing time decreased.

Discussing his transfer to the south coast, Ramsdale told Football Focus, “If I was sitting on the bench, winning a trophy wouldn’t have meant that much to me. I just wanted to play football. As a kid, I wanted to play, not just sit on the bench. My aim was to get out there and play, so I’m lucky to be here at Southampton.”

Throughout his career, Ramsdale had limited bench time; during his youth at Sheffield United, he took loan spells to secure more playing opportunities. However, he only played 11 matches for Arsenal in his last year there.

In his debut season at the Emirates, Ramsdale won the Premier League Golden Glove, recording 16 clean sheets in the league and 20 in total across 41 matches. He was instrumental in Arsenal’s campaign, helping them finish as league runners-up and reach the Champions League quarter-finals, while also earning four caps for England between 2021 and 2023.

Ramsdale will face his former club when Southampton visits Arsenal on October 5.
